On January 6, 2004, the matriarch of the Oliva Family, Madelyn celebrated her 100th birthday. Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from around the country rendezvoused in Houston, Texas to mark the occasion. Madelyn is in better health than most of her grandchildren. She is mentally as sharp as a tack, and still keeps busy crocheting comforters, hats, and slippers, and baking bread and other goodies. In fact, when we sat down to share about some of our memories over the past 40+ years, she was quick to fill in all the details (including many that we had hoped to omit!) She also still walks everyday and is very active with daily visits to her local Senior Center. She has been honored for the past several years for her longevity by Houston City Government.
